Training

Summer Circuit Program

During the month of July, sectionally and nationally ranked players from around the world train alongside Van Der Meer Tennis Academy students at Van Der Meer Sweet Briar Summer camp located near Lynchburg, VA. This program includes a combination of in-camp training and superior coaching at off-campus tournaments. A select group of tournament players train and travel to nearby MATA, National, and ITA (collegiate) tournaments with coaches based at Sweet Briar. Acceptance into this program requires a minimum of two weeks attendance and is based on high sectional, national, and international tournament experience/ranking.

The list of possible tournaments to be included is posted each spring. For the older, stronger players, there usually are two or three ITA events in North Carolina and/or Washington DC, as well as 16s National Clay Court Championships, and several bigger MATA tournaments, including one on site over a weekend in early July.

Set in the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains, the 3,300 acre Sweet Briar campus features fourteen hard courts (four lit), a large gymnasium, an indoor pool, and three lakes. Room and boarding packages are available for players beginning at age ten. Players are housed on-site in air-conditioned dorm rooms, and meals are provided in the campus dining facility.
